Season 1 Synopsis

A young, enthusiastic vicar - who also happens to be a woman - is appointed to the sleepy country parish of Dibley. The congregation, all six faithful souls, reacts to her arrival with a mixture of wonder and horror.

"You were expecting a bloke with a beard, a Bible and bad breath. Instead, you got a babe with a bob cut and a magnificent bosom," Geraldine explains to her new flock.

Her appointment appalls David Horton, autocratic head of the parish council. Once it becomes clear that Geraldine does not intend to play second fiddle, David resolves to have her removed. Meanwhile, he becomes her implacable opponent.

Undaunted, Geraldine steps full of unbridled confidence and unbounded optimism into Dibley's quaint world, where her parishioners include some of the most addle-pated eccentrics under the English sky.

In the course of events, Geraldine and Dibley come to terms with each other, and join forces to revitalize the parish together.

Season 2 Synopsis

Dawn French returns in the second season of The Vicar Of Dibley.

Romance is in the air, and Geraldine turns Cupid as she attempts to bring together the desperately shy Alice and the even more desperately shy Hugo. It's an operation that makes the Normandy Landings seem simple.

The parishioners also delve into the murky world of the media when they set up their own local radio station. Geraldine conducts the world's first phone in without a single call and the Brain of Dibley Contest has an unlikely champion.

Spurred on by their success, the villagers also put on their own revue in the village hall, revealing talents some may feel should have been kept well hidden.

Dibley regulars include the long suffering Chairman of the Council, David Horton; the farmer whose arm is rarely out of a cow's backside, Owen Newitt; and Parish Secretary Frank Pickle.

Season 3 Synopsis

At the end of the previous season, Alice and Hugo got married, with Jim as best man and the bridesmaids dressed as teletubbies.

Geraldine met David's brother from Liverpool, Simon (played by Clive Mantle), and was instantly attracted to him. Also, Alice surprised Geraldine during her hen night after revealing that her biological father was David Horton.

At the start of the third season, Hugo and Alice return from their honeymoon, Hugo having been imprisoned for carrying cocaine through Customs. Alice is pregnant.

Meanwhile, David's brother Simon and Geraldine start seeing each other. However, when he says he's got a woman back in Liverpool, she refuses to attend any services and offers her resignation.
