Die Kantoor is a South African, Afrikaans-language adaptation of the BBC series The Office, which is a fly-on-the-wall docureality parody about modern South African office life.
Filmed primarily in Afrikaans with English subtitles, the series depicts the everyday lives of office employees at Deluxe Processed Meats, a company which specialises in polony.
The staff are looked down upon by their head office, who specialise in prime cuts, and no one feels safe in their positions, as a BBBEE business consortium recently bought a large part of the company.
Die Kantoor is shot in a single-camera setup, without a studio audience or a laugh track, and is made in the form of a documentary.
Although fictional and scripted, the presence of the camera is openly acknowledged by the series' characters.
The cast includes Albert Pretorius, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Lida Botha, Carl Beukes, Ilse Oppelt, Daniah de Villiers, Mehboob Bawa, Sipumziwe Lucwaba, and Gert du Plessis.
In the series premiere: After hiring Emma, Flip hears about a client's complaint and makes a promise he can't keep to make her happy.
Die Kantoor is a Showmax Original produced by Rapid Blue with executive producer Erika Klopper. Bennie Fourie is the head writer and director.
The script is by Bennie Fourie and Schalk Bezuidenhout.
The title music is by Wesley West.
