Set in the dangerous world of the private security industry, the 52-episode series is a high-stakes, action-packed drama about Ndoni Themba (Nambitha Ben-Mazwi), a deeply troubled private security bodyguard in search of answers.
Siyabonga Thwala plays her mentor, Khaya Bhodoza: a prominent businessman and political stalwart.
The series also stars Charmaine Mtinta as Dorah, Ernest Ndlovu as Enoch, Owen Sejake as General Moeti, Angela Sithole as Winnie, Amahle Khumalo as Nosipho and Neo Ntlatleng as Uhuru Moeti.
Also starring are Sandile Mahlangu as Jabulani Ngubane, Terrence Ngwila as Thobani Kodisang, Kabelo Thai as Madlopa Mkhwanazi and Joseph Sedibo as Mkhonto Bhodoza.
Empini is a Showmax Original, first produced by Clive Morris Productions which was replaced by Crystal Pics TV after allegations of financial mismanagement against CMP.
The original executive producers were Clive Morris and Khayelihle Dom Gumede; the series producer was Heather Cooke.
The head writer was Zaba Leroto Hlatshwayo, with storyliners Linda Bere, Lurdes Laice Maswanganye and Tony Miyambo.
The head director was Eric Mogale, with series directors Menga Nhlabathi and Zimkhitha Maseko.
The creative team changed dramatically after the switch in production houses with Nomusa Nzima taking over as executive producer.
Julie Hall replaced Zaba Leroto Hlatshwayo as head writer and Luthando Mngomezulu replaced Eric Mogale as head director.
