Coronation Street (informally known as Corrie) is a British soap opera created by Granada Television which centres on Coronation Street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based on Salford, with terraced houses, café, corner shop, newsagents, textile factory and The Rovers Return pub.
It is the story of everyday life in a small, tightly-knit community and its themes include love, passion, deception, greed and intrigue.
Coronation Street is made by Granada Television at MediaCity near Manchester and shown in all ITV regions, as well as internationally. On 17 September 2010, it became the world's longest-running TV soap opera in production.
Coronation Street is noted for its depiction of a down-to-earth working class community combined with light-hearted humour, and strong characters.
Broadcast Notes
Coronation Street debuted in South Africa on ITV Choice on the day the channel went live (5 May, 2015), beginning with Episode 8630. The South African broadcast is two days behind the UK one.
