Description

Case Files: Africa is a South African factual documentary series produced by different production companies (initially Sabido Productions) which investigates real life crime stories from South Africa and the rest of the continent.

The series premiered with a double bill on FOX Crime on Tuesday 9 July 2013, at 20h30. Thereafter new episodes broadcast at 21h15 weekly, preceded by a repeat of the previous episodes at 20h30.

Synopsis

Case Files: Africa looks at infamous real life crime stories from South Africa and the rest of the continent.

The series uncovers criminal stories across the board. From documented interviews with some South African serial rapists and Tanzanian Albino killings for witchcraft to syndicates behind rhino poaching, Case Files: Africa examines and reveals an array of criminal behaviour.

The first few episodes include:

Crime Capital - Evil Personified

Dina Rodrigues comes from a middle class white South African family. A product of Wynberg Girls High School, it was ironic that years later she would be in the court just over the road from her high school for doing the unthinkable.

In 2005, Dina began her affair with Neil Wilson; he hid the fact that he had a love child and when Dina found out she went into a murderous rage. She paid hit men to "make the problem go away".

The murdered six-month old was just the beginning of her problems as she would stand trial and face life imprisonment for orchestrating the murder.

Evil Unmasked - The Strangler Dossiers

Norman Afzal Simons is better known as the serial killer "The Station Strangler", who sodomized and strangled 22 young boys during the early 1990s in Cape Town. But he was only ever convicted of one of the murders.

Now almost 14 years later an inquest looks at trying to connect Simons to the other 21 murders.

This is one of the worst serial killings to have taken place in South Africa's criminal history. And with so many more children in the area still being abducted and killed today, the question remains: have they caught the right man?

The Blackheart Diaries

Alive and incarcerated at Leeuwkop Maximum Security Prison, Lazarus Mazingane has spent the last ten years behind bars after a 5 year reign of terror on Johannesburg's ethnic women.

Posing as a taxi driver, he raped and strangled over 20 women in the 1990s. He was eventually caught by Director Piet Byleveldt at the age of 25. He blames his mother-in-law for wringing out the murderous side of him that cultivated his hatred for women.

The footage we have documented through our two-hour interview with Lazarus shows a mixture of emotions, a riveting story, and lends for excellent viewing.

Crime Capital - The Sizzler's Massacre

Cape Town, 2003. A young man stumbles into a filling station, bleeding profusely and covered in sticky tape. He tells the petrol attendant about a massacre and collapses in a heap on the floor.

By the time the police get to Sizzlers Gay Escort Agency, it is too late. Nine men are found tied up, face down on the floor, most with their throats slit and all have been shot at point blank range.

Two months later two men are arrested. Adam Woest and Trevor Theys are tried and convicted on nine counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

There are many facts in this story that don't add up. Was this a botched robbery or something more sinister? The two men convicted refuse to tell the full story...

The Grave Hunters

Investigators searching for the remains of political activists killed by apartheid-era death squads call in the help of Argentinian experts who have helped solve similar mysteries from their country's own troubled past.
