Packed to the Rafters premiered in South Africa on DStv's Sony Entertainment Television (SONY) channel on Tuesday 30 June 2009, at 20h30. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 5 premiered on SONY on Wednesday 1 May 2013, at 15h35. New episodes broadcast in a double bill weekly, at varying times. There are 22 episodes in the fifth season.

Synopsis

Packed To The Rafters is a dramedy that features a unique storytelling format whereby the perspective changes each episode - so one week the story's told through the eyes of one character and the next another.

The scenario: Julie and Dave Rafter have double reason for celebration - it's their 25th wedding anniversary and their youngest son is finally leaving home (although his new place is a little closer than expected.)

Unfortunately, as they look forward to a second honeymoon, unforeseen problems loom. Dave faces unemployment, Julie's widower father suffers a panic attack, son Nathan and daughter-in-law Sammy announce they need a place to stay, and daughter Rachel leaves her abusive boyfriend.

With their empty nest full once more, plenty of drama, lots of laughs and a few tears ensue as the Rafters learn to live under the same roof as their grown-up children again.
