About the Show

iThuba Lokugcina is a South African television sitcom created by Vusi Zion and Marvin Mathibe which chronicles the misadventures of an odd group of underachieving misfits who come together to save their rather dim futures in a special life skills class organised by their well-meaning professor, who wants to help them save face by not having to tell their parents that they've failed yet again.

The kindly but misguided Professor Milton (Elliot Makhubo, Rhythm City) steadfastly believes he can save them all and turn them into the brains they wish they had - but soon realises he is losing the battle.

He sets up a programme that will help the underachieving students get through their academic year successfully - a life skills/extra class (or "iThuba Lokugcina") programme within the varsity that the students are attending.

The students themselves are all at university studying different courses, but all come together in this one class as part of their extra class requirement to assist them from failing the academic year again.

Can the enthusiastic professor save the students, himself or even the day? Only time will tell.

iThuba Lokugcina also stars Thuli Thabethe (City Ses'La), Zola Nombona (Single Galz and Single Guys), Arthur Zitha (uSkroef noSexy), Dirk Vermeulen (Hartland), Thulani Mahlaba (Single Galz) and Mthuthuzeli Feni (Stash).

The pilot episode, entitled "Royal Scramble", was writte by Mokopi Shale and directed by Sanele Zulu. The series head writer was Martin Koboekae, with music by Nik Sakellarides.

The series was executive produced by Vusi Zion for Moja Movie International, with Martin Mathibe serving as associate producer. The duo co-created the series.
