About the Show

Million Rand Money Drop is a South African television game show created and produced by Endemol South Africa and based on the UK series The Million Pound Drop Live in which a team of two people with a pre-existing relationship is presented with R1,000,000 and must risk the entire amount on each of seven multiple-choice questions.

The series premiered on M-Net (simulcast in HD) on Wednesday 10 April 2013, at 19h30. After nine episodes the show moved to Sundays at 18h00, from 9 June. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 15 hour-long episodes in the series.

Synopsis

Have you ever day-dreamed about what you would do with R1-million in cash? Do you think you'd do well in a simple game of multiple choice? If your answer to both questions is a resounding "yes", your dreams might just turn into reality with this M-Net game show windfall!

M-Net has joined forces with Endemol South Africa to create its own version of the hit international game show The Money Drop, the American version of which aired on the channel in 2012.

The hit series is the highest selling format since 2010 for production company Endemol, having already been made in key markets across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

M-Net held auditions for the series in four cities across South Africa in 2012:

Johannesburg – Thursday, 25 October and Friday, 26 October
Durban – Thursday, 01 November and Friday, 02 November
Cape Town – Thursday, 08 November and Friday, 09 November
Port Elizabeth – Friday, 16 November and Saturday, 17 November

So how does the show work? In each episode a pair of contestants starts off with R1-million in hard cash. Just seven simple multiple choice questions stand between them and their money.

Sounds simple, right? Think again!

Contestants are presented with a number of multiple choice answers to each question, and must place their money on the possible answers they think could be right. One wrong move and any cash bet on the incorrect possibilities disappears through a trapdoor, lost to them for good.

So the question is... can you beat the drop?

Million Rand Money Drop is hosted by actress Busi Lurayi and produced by Endemol South Africa.
