Episode 2: The week Bobby showed his abs

Press Release

Nine exciting new voices were chosen by The Voice SA judges on Sunday, 7 February. The second of seven Blind audition episodes saw the coaches fighting over some unique talent, as they heard everything from classical music to deconstructed pop songs.

The highlight of the show, however, came right at the very end, when coach - and heartthrob Afrikaans pop star - Bobby showed off his wash board abs to the clearly-smitten Lana Crowster, who was so overcome by the gesture that she feigned fainting on stage in front of the entire studio audience!

28-year old Lana from Cape Town - a freelance performer, music educator, and vocal coach who has also been doing back-up vocals for the likes of Arno Carstens, Toya Delazy and Josh Groban - was the only singer Bobby added to his team on the night.

Likewise, Lira’s team also grew by one member only. Even though Bobby slammed down his buzzer on the first line of Austin Lurring’s rendition of Marroon 5’s Sunday Morning, the 20 year-old AFDA music student from Pietermaritzburg couldn’t say no Lira, as he had always dreamt of working with her.

Parlotones front man Kahn struck it lucky, however, by managing to to convince four of the nine incredible singers who received the thumbs-up from the coaches to join his team.

Clemour

They are classically trained opera singer Johan Anker (24) from Port Elizabeth, as well as the quirky Zé (27) from Pretoria and and soulful Clemour Ngobeni (23) from Johannesburg, who all chose to be on Team Kahn because he turned his red chair for them first.

Furthermore, Kahn’s great pitch to Eden Myrrh from Pietermaritzburg, whom he said “painted pictures with her voice” also worked in his favour.

One of the three talents who joined Team Karen is 37-year old vocal coach and music teacher Tulla Eckart from Johannesburg, for whom Karen turned in a flash, not knowing that the voice belonged to someone she knows.

Karen and Tulla both attended the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg. The other two additions to her team are Jono Grayson (23), a sound engineering and music production student from Cape Town and Nontu X (25) from Empangeni in KZN, whose dad happens to be a music professor.

After the first two episodes of The Voice SA, the teams now tally as follows:

5 singers in #TeamKahn: Clemour Ngobeni, Johan Anker, Eden Myrrh, Zé and Prime Zulu.

5 singers in #TeamKaren:  Jono Grayson, Nontu X, Tulla Eckart, Thembeka Mnguni and Marcel de Almeida.

3 singers in #TeamLira: El Clay, Jeremy Olivier and Austin Lurring.

3 singers in #Team Bobby: Lana Crowster, Jessica Martins and Mbijana Sibisi.
