Bio

Jonathan Scott (born 1949) is an English zoologist and wildlife photographer specializing in African wildlife, best known for presenting the BBC wildlife documentary show Big Cat Diary.

Years of experience has taught him just where to look for the wildlife, particularly the big cats which have always fascinated him. His early work brought the Marsh Pride of lions and Half-Tail the leopard into the limelight and led the way for the first series of Big Cat Diary.

Born in London and brought up on a farm in Berkshire, Jonathan completed an Honours degree in Zoology in 1972 at Belfast University. He has lived in Kenya since 1977, living for much of this time in or near the Masai Mara National Reserve.

During his first years in Kenya, Jonathan worked as a guide and naturalist in and around the reserve getting to know the big cats and their territories.

Since then he has followed the great wildebeest migration, often sleeping in his car so as not to miss any of this great event.

Outside Africa he has travelled extensively around the world presenting for various natural history programmes and guiding wildlife tours.

As well as his acclaimed wildlife photography, Jonathan loves to draw and publishes his pen and ink artwork. He is also a prolific writer with a number of publications on Kenya's wildlife and particularly the big cats that live there.

You can't talk about Jonathan without talking about his wife, Angela, who he married in 1992 on the Ololoo escarpment overlooking the magnificent Masai Mara. Angela shares a passion for wildlife photography, working with Jonathan on the Big Cat series as a photographer, advisor and spotter.

Jonathan presented Big Cat since the series began in 1996, through its incarnations as Big Cat Diary and Big Cat Week and later into Big Cat Live.
