Mahershala Ali is an American actor best known for his role as Richard Tyler in the sci-fi television series The 4400, appearing in 30 episodes from 2004-2006.
Ali was also a leading cast member on the first season of Crossing Jordan, as well as on Threat Matrix from 2003-2004.
He has made guest appearances on Haunted, NYPD Blue, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Handler and House of Cards.
He also appeared in the film Making Revolution, in 2003.
Ali's unusual name is derived from the Biblical book of Isaiah 8:1-3, where the name is usually given as "Maher-shalal-hash-baz." It is Hebrew for "To speed to the spoil, he hasteneth the prey" and is thought to be the longest name in the Bible.
