Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor best known for his film roles in GoldenEye, as Boris Grishenko and in X2: X-Men United, as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler.

Cumming is an award-winning theatrical performer, actor, producer, writer and director who also appeared in the mini-series The Runaway.

After receiving an Emmy nomination for his guest starring role as Eli Gold in The Good Wife, Cumming became a series regular for the second season.

He is also the host of the PBS drama Masterpiece Mystery and has appeared in several other television series including Sex and the City, Frasier, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The L Word, Reefer Madness and the mini-series Tin Man.

Cumming took his talents to the box office starring alongside renowned music artists Cher and Christina Aguilera in the movie Burlesque and with Helen Mirren in the film adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest.

His past film credits include Circle of Friends, X2: X-Men United, the Spy Kids trilogy, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion,' Goldeneye, Eyes Wide Shut, Titus, Emma, Sweet Land, Dare and Boogie Woogie.

He also wrote, produced, directed and starred in the National Board of Review award-winning film The Anniversary Party and served as actor/director in Ghost Writer.

In addition to his film and television credits, Cumming has made a name for himself in the cabaret world with his self-created show I Bought a Blue Car Today which he performed in NYC, Los Angeles, London and Sydney.

On Broadway, Cumming was heralded for his performance as Dionysus in the National Theatre of Scotland's production of Euripides' The Bacchae and for his role in Hamlet at the Donmar Warehouse in London, for which he won a TMA Best Actor award.

In recent years, he has immersed himself in a variety of projects, including his own talk show, recording a duet with Liza Minnelli, modeling for Lee Jeans, writing a best-selling novel, and winning the Independent Spirit award for producing and the National Board of Review award for directing.

He also launched the obsession-based website www.itsasickness.com.

Cumming has served as an activist for civil rights and sex education which earned him multiple humanitarian awards, most notably two Human Rights Campaign awards, GLAAD's Vito Russo media award, the Trevor Project Hero award, and various others.

His homeland of Scotland also honoured his dedication by naming him the 2005 Icon of Scotland and making him an O.B.E. (Officer of the British Empire) in the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours' List.

He was born in Aberfeldy, Scotland. Alan has dated both men and women, describing himself as bisexual.
