Bio

John Goodman is an American actor best known for his starring role as Dan Conner in the television sitcom Roseanne, from 1988-1997.

He is a regular cast member in movies made by the Cohen brothers, including Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

Goodman currently stars as Creighton Bernette in the television drama series Treme, since 2010. In 2011 he starred on the fourth season of the drama series Damages.

Goodman remembers the day in 1975 when he left his native St. Louis for New York; armed only with a degree in fine arts from Southwest Missouri State University, $1,000 his brother had lent him, and a dream of becoming a professional actor.

He didn't want to look back later and say, "I wonder if I could have..." He made the rounds, worked at odd jobs, and tried to keep busy. He's been quite busy ever since.

Goodman's film project, You Don't Know Jack, an HBO Films biopic about Jack Kevorkian, reunited him with Al Pacino and Susan Sarandon. Other releases include Bunyan and the Babe, Pope Joan and Alabama Moon.

Among Goodman's many accolades are a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and seven Emmy nominations for his role in Roseanne.

He also earned Emmy nominations for TNT's Kingfish: A Story of Huey P. Long, CBS's production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, and the Coen Brothers film Barton Fink.

In 2007, Goodman won his second Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

Film credits include In The Electric Mist, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Speed Racer, Bee Movie, Beyond the Sea, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Coyote Ugly, One Night at McCool's, Bringing Out the Dead, Fallen, The Borrowers, Blues Brothers 2000, The Runner, The Flintstones, Arachnophobia, Born Yesterday, The Babe, King Ralph, Punchline, Everybody's All-American, Sea of Love, Eddie Macon's Run, C.H.U.D., Revenge of the Nerds, Maria's Lovers, Sweet Dreams, True Stories, The Big Easy, Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski.

Goodman has lent his voice to numerous animated films, including The Princess and the Frog, Monsters, Inc., The Emperor's New Groove, Tales of the Rat Fink and The Jungle Book II. He also voiced a main character in NBC's animated series Father of the Pride.

Goodman and his family have homes in Los Angeles and New Orleans.
