Bio

Sydney Tamiia Poitier is an American actress best known for her recurring roles in the television shows Joan of Arcadia (2003-2004) and Veronica Mars (2004).

Poitier was born in Los Angeles, California to actor Sidney Poitier and former actress Joanna Shimkus.

Poitier was a recurring character in season one of Joan of Arcadia, in which she played Rebecca Askew, the love interest of Joan's older brother, Kevin.

She was briefly a regular on Veronica Mars before the show opted to focus on different characters (the show's mystery format required more guest stars on each episode than was in the budget, and Poitier's character was most peripheral to the existing storyline) and she was dropped from the cast.

Her role in both series was related to journalism - on Joan of Arcadia she worked at the same newspaper as Kevin, and on Veronica Mars she was Veronica's journalism teacher.

In 2003 Poitier played the title role in the short-lived sitcom Abby, in which her character, who has dumped her boyfriend Will, agrees to remain roommates in order to keep their San Francisco apartment.

Only 10 episodes were filmed before the series was cancelled due to low ratings.

She has made guest appearances on First Years (2001), The Twilight Zone (2003) and Grey's Anatomy (2006).

Poitier has also acted in the made-for-TV movies Free of Eden (1999), Noah's Ark (1999) and On the Edge (2001).

She made her screen acting debut in the 1998 feature film park Day. She has since appeared in the following films to date:

True Crime (1999)
MacArthur Park (2001)
Happy Birthday (2001)
The Devil Cats (2004)
Nine Lives (2005)
The List (2006)
Hood of Horror (2006)
Grindhouse (2007) (segment "Death Proof")

She was featured as one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2001.
