Bio

Thandeka Khwela was born in Durban’s Umlazi Township. Later she moved to KwaNdengezi Township, near Pinetown, where she also attended school.

Durban Girls’ Secondary is where she matriculated in 1994 and in 1995 she took a good break, where she just stayed at home.

In 1996 Thandeka did her first year drama studies at Technikon Natal which is now know as the Durban Institution of Technology. She graduated in 1998. During the whole of 1999 Thandeka did a puppet show for schools in Durban’s Coastal towns.

In January 2000, Thandeka moved up to Johannesburg for the very first time. Before joining the television industry, Thandeka taught at FUBA School of Dramatic Arts. At the same time she did industrial theatre, but in mid 2001 she had to quit teaching in order to focus on her acting career.

That was when Thandeka started auditioning for television ads as well as dramas. In 2003 she made cameo appearances on Gaz’lam and had a few calls with Tsha-Tsha I.

In 2004 Thandeka joined YOTV as the YOTV Land presenter “Skhathi” and while she was with them she did the voice over for YOTV Magazine programmes and was working full time in the company producing YOTV Land.

More recently Thandeka became the voice over artist for SABC1’s popular local game show, Gen Game.

Thandeka’s biggest achievement to date is being a Director of her company Nexdoor Media, which is producing the new show Jika Majika on SABC 1.

Thandeka is a mother of a boy, Phumelela.

Thandeka’s hobbies include reading and her favourite book is the Bible. She watches a lot of movies, especially cartoons and comedies.

If talking qualifies as a hobby, then that too can be added to Thandeka’s list.
