John Hillerman is an American actor best known for his role as former British Army Sergeant Major Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on the television series Magnum, P.I., from 1980-1988.
He won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV for his role in Magnum.
Hillerman was born and raised in Texas and is not British as many fans and colleagues believe. He had to learn the English accent for his role on Magnum. He developed his accent by watching and listening to the performances of Lawrence Olivier.
Hillerman retired in 2000 and is now residing in his home state of Texas.
