John Hensley is an American actor best known for his role as Matt McNamara on the television drama series Nip/Tuck, from 2003-2010.
Hensley was born in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Before becoming an actor, he worked on a horse ranch in Wyoming.
He did not intend to act before he auditioned for a school play. Although he was not cast, he was hooked on acting. He decided to take a week long trip to New York, where he met his future manager.
Hensley has said that he would have been just as content to wrangle horses on the farm if acting had not panned out. He did not choose acting as a permanent career before he got a call-back from his soon-to-be manager.
Hensley's first major role was playing Luke Madigan on the television series Madigan Men, which he followed up with the role of Gabriel Bowman on the series Witchblade.
His biggest television role to date has been as troubled teen Matt McNamara on the FX drama Nip/Tuck.
His film appearances have included Campfire Stories (2001), Peoples (2004), Fifty Pills (2006) and Teeth (2007).
Hensley plays on the World Poker Tour in the Hollywood Home games for the Beacon House charity.
He dated Nip/Tuck co-star Joely Richardson, who in the show plays his mother.
