Bio
Didintle Khunou is a South African actress, singer, voice artist, presenter and MC best known for her starring role as Celie in the Janice Honeyman production of The Color Purple Musical at the Joburg Theatre.
She won the Naledi award and the Broadway World Online Award for 'Best Lead Actress In a Musical - Female' for her performance as Celie.
Born in Klerksdorp, Didintle realised her passion for performing at the age of 16 after performing in a school production and went on to obtain a BA Honours Degree in Dramatic Arts from the Wits School of Arts.
She furthered her training at ActorWize, a professional acting course for film and TV facilitated by teacher, actor and director Rajesh Gopie.
She also trained at the Indigo View Advanced Actors Academy, founded and driven by director and acting coach Steven Feinstein.
Didintle made her television acting debut in the recurring role of Modiehi in the SABC2 drama series Mamello, making her first appearance in the role in the Season 2 premiere on 31 August, 2016.
She returned to the role for Season 3 in 2017.
She next landed a guest starring role in an episode of the SABC1 sitcom Single Galz, appearing in Season 2, Episode 12 (which aired on 23 April, 2018).
In the same year, Didintle played the recurring role of Mapula in the Mzansi Magic telenovela The Throne, making her first appearance in Season 1, Episode 61 (which aired on 12 November, 2018).
In 2020, she and Stella Dlangalala were the featured guests in an episode of the SABC2 variety comedy series #Karektas, hosted by Desmond Dube, in an episode which aired on 24 April (Season 2, Episode 11).
Later that year she landed the starring role of Esther Ndlovu in BET Africa's first original telenovela, Isono: The Sin.
In the show, her musically talented character is the daughter of a powerful matriarch who will stop at nothing to serve her own needs.
Isono premiered on BET on Monday 27 July, 2020.
