Mekaila Mathys is a South African actress and dancer best known to international audiences for her starring role as Tahira Kahn in the Netflix drama series Blood & Water.
Aside from appearances in music videos, her screen acting debut was recurring as an 8-ball (a human possessed by an angel) in the Syfy series Dominion, in 2015.
She landed her first starring role when she was cast as Angel Abrahams in the kykNET & kie dance drama series danZ!, in 2017.
In the series her character is an impoverished young dancer who is desperate to be a star and seeks to hide her meagre circumstances.
Mekaila next played the recurring role of Eloise on the kykNET supernatural crime procedural series Die Spreeus (The Starlings), first appearing in the series premiere on 9 April, 2019.
Also in 2019, she played a drone pilot in an episode of the British thriller series Deep State.
Later that year her international profile was raised when she was announced as one of the starring cast of the Netflix coming-of-age drama series Blood & Water, in which a Cape Town teen sets out to prove whether a private-school swimming star is her sister who was abducted at birth.
The series debuted in 190 countries on 20 May, 2020.
