Rick Cosnett is a Zimbabwean-born Australian actor best known for his role as Dr. Wes Maxfield, a professor at Whitmore College whose students describe him as brilliant, in spite of his arrogant teaching style, in the horror drama television series The Vampire Diaries. Cosnett was born and grew up in Zimbabwe but moved to Australia and studied a BFA Acting at QUT. He now lives in the USA. His work began in the theatre and has spread into film and television and producing. His great grandfather was the head of the Royal School of Music. He has two sisters and is a cousin of Hugh Grant. In 2014 he began starring in the superhero fantasy drama The Flash as Eddie Thawne (based on the DC Comics character Professor Zoom) - a recent transfer to the Central City Police Department whose past is a mystery.
