Bio

David Duchovny is an American actor best known for his starring television roles as Fox Mulder on The X-Files (1993-2002) and as Hank Moody on Californication, from 2007-2014.

Duchovny was born and raised in New York City. He was on the road to earning his Ph.D. in English Literature when, to his family's eternal disappointment, he began acting. Subsequently, Duchovny emerged to become one of the most highly acclaimed actors in Hollywood.

He appeared in the indie thriller Phantom alongside Ed Harris and in the film Goats, in which he stars alongside Vera Farmiga, Keri Russell, Minnie Driver and Ty Burrell.

For Showtime's hit series Californication, Duchovny won the Golden Globe in 2008 for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

From 1993-2002, he starred in Fox Television's monster hit The X-Files, which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series and two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

Duchovny added the role of director to his already extensive list of accomplishments when he wrote, directed and starred in two critically acclaimed episodes of The X-Files and Hollywood A.D.

He made his feature directorial debut with House of D, which he also wrote and appeared in. Duchovny can be seen in the film, Things We Lost In The Fire.

Other film credits include Evolution, Connie and Carla Do L.A., Return to Me, The X-Files movie, Playing God, Zoolander, Kalifornia, The Rapture, Julia Has Two Lovers, Chaplin, Beethoven and Full Frontal.

Duchovny made a brief return to television in Life with Bonnie, and his two performances earned him an Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

On stage, Duchovny has appeared in such plays as The Copulating Machine of Venice, California and Green Cockatoo.

Duchovny married actress Téa Leoni on May 6, 1997. In April 1999, Leoni gave birth to a daughter, Madelaine West Duchovny. Their second child, a son, Kyd Miller Duchovny, was born in June 2002.

On October 15, 2008, Duchovny's and Leoni's representatives issued a statement that they had separated and had been for several months prior to this announcement.

Duchovny is a former vegetarian and a current pescetarian. In 1996, People magazine named him one of its 50 Most Beautiful People.

In 2008, Duchovny announced that he had checked himself into a rehabilitation facility for treating sex addiction.
