Dev Patel is an English actor best known for his starring role as Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, for which he won a number of awards including a Critics' Choice Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Patel is also known for his role as Anwar Kharral in the British teen drama series Skins (2007-2008) and for starring in the television drama series The Newsroom.
In addition, Dev played the role of Prince Zuko in the M. Night Shyamalan film The Last Airbender and its spin-off video game, in 2010.
Patel was born in Harrow, England, to Gujarati Hindu Indian parents, both of whom were born in Nairobi, Kenya, where there is a significant Indian community. His parents both emigrated from Kenya separately in their teens, and only met in London.
