Okkert Brits is a South African Olympic athlete specialising in the pole vault who holds the African and Commonwealth records with a personal best height of 6.03m, set in 1995.
He competed in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, finishing 7th in 2000. He was the world’s number one vaulter in 2003 and won numerous gold, silver and bronze medals.
Okkert, through Life Fitness, now specialises in top-of-the-range fitness equipment, supplied to the corporate, consumer and commercial markets.
Married to Jane Gillespie since 2003, he is the father of Sarah Jane Brits (born 2005) and David Okkert Brits (born 2006).
Okkert was one of the celebrity contestants on M-Net's Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina, in 2010.
