Jolene Purdy is an American actress best known for her role as Cherita Chen in the 2001 feature film Donnie Darko; and for her role as Mandella in the television sitcom 10 Things I Hate About You, from 2009-2010.
She also has a starring role as Dodee Weaver, a radio engineer who makes contact with the outside world, in the science fiction horror television series Under the Dome, based on the novel by Stephen King.
Born and raised in Torrance, California, Purdy knew from childhood that a career in acting was the only path for her. As a student at Redondo Union High School, she enrolled in their performing arts program and participated in a handful of her school's musical theater productions.
Upon graduation, Purdy landed a job at Disneyland's California Adventure, singing in their live action Aladdin production. Looking to break into the professional world, Purdy booked her first audition and won the role in a film that would become a cult hit, as the lovable Cherita Chen in Donnie Darko.
Purdy's television credits include her starring role on Gigantic, a recurring role on 10 Things I Hate About You and guest-starring roles on Breaking Bad, Glee and Raising Hope.
When not acting, Purdy enjoys spending time with her husband and their West Highland Terrier dog, Mochi. She lives in Long Beach, California, and likes to walk on the beach and shop at local boutiques.
