Bio

Cassidy Freeman is an American actress best known for her starring role as Tess Mercer on the science fiction television series Smallville, from 2008-2011.

She also has a starring role as Cady Longmire, Walt's only child who is an attorney with dreams of the big city, in the crime drama television series Longmire, based on the mystery novels by Craig Johnson.

Freeman landed her break-out role as the villainous and eerily enticing Tess Mercer, the manipulative ruler of the LuthorCorp, in Smallville.

True to her eco-friendly nature, Freeman was born on Earth Day, and raised in her hometown of Chicago, Ilinois, with older brothers Crispin and Clark, also actors, and spending time in Montana where her parents have since moved to be cattle ranchers.

Having attended the private academy of the Latin School of Chicago throughout her adolescent years, Freeman studied abroad in Bolivia before settling in Vermont, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Middlebury College in 2005 with degrees in theatre and Spanish.

With Native American, German, Scottish, Jewish and Estonian roots, Freeman took another break from the U.S. when she traveled to Vietnam with her mother before landing the lead role as Gemma, the girl who gives up speaking for the Catholic tradition of Lent, in the acclaimed New York stage production of Cigarettes and Chocolate, alongside theatre veterans Jimmy Ryan and Jesse Hooker.

It was in this moving performance that Freeman was noticed by a talent manager from Los Angeles.

Freeman executive produced and stars alongside her real-life brother Clark in the buzzed-about gritty Indie flick, Yellow Brick Road, released in 2010. Based on the true events that occurred in a remote New Hampshire town, the thriller follows a group of friends who brave the woods to search for an entire town that went missing in the 1940s.

When she's not busy working, the bilingual Freeman chooses to travel. Among her hobbies are hiking, quilting, playing volleyball, surfing and singing in her family band The Real D'Coy.

The eco-conscious Freeman is passionate about environmental preservation and fulfillment of resources as an active member of the Heal the Bay charity, which works toward cleaning up and protecting the west coast waters. She also teaches and tutors children in Santa Monica as a part of the Virginia Avenue Project.

Aside from her philanthropic tendencies and devotion to her craft, Freeman always takes time to give some love and attention to her 50-pound, Swiss Mountain dog, Shasta.
