The scenario: On Christmas Day 1997, Hantjie Jansen receives thrilling news: his Uncle Jakwes, the longtime drum major of the Old Righteous Blues Christmas Choir, is retiring. Since childhood, Hantjie has dreamed of taking his place, but the elderly choir leaders refuse to consider him. 20 years earlier, Hantjie’s father made a choice that split the beloved choir in two, sparking bitter rivalry and violence between the factions.
