The synopsis: In a new documentary, director Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, Gates of Heaven, Wormwood) delves into the shadowy and complex narrative of the Manson family murders, challenging the official accounts of the most infamous killing spree of the 1960s. It explores the darkest corners of recent history, casting light on newly revealed links between the CIA, LSD, Charles Manson, and the likes of Jack Ruby and Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor whose 1974 bestseller Helter Skelter chronicled the Manson trial. Meh. I don't expect any great truths to be revealed because I don't trust Netflix documentaries. They aren't edgy enough and even come across as staged to push a particular agenda, like The Garden: Commune or Cult. It was BAD. I watched the whole thing and bought into it at the beginning but then by the end it seemed ridiculous. I was convinced that the people who "joined" The Garden were plants sent in by the production to make the set-up look like a cult.
