Coming up on
Uzalo tonight (4 September 2025):
TV newcomer Jamy-Lee Simons as Joanne Davids, Ashley's mother.
We know Ashley as Nkazimulo’s girlfriend, now we meet her mother, Joanne. An old school beauty and party girl who was "tamed" by her religious husband.
When Ashley spirals into distress after Nkazimulo’s kidnapping, Joanne starts spending time with Nkunzi, helping him cope.
Nkunzi is everything her husband is not: dangerous, impulsive, unpredictable and deeply charismatic.
*Nudge, nudge, wink, wink*. We predict she's going to offer him "comfort". A duvet of empathy.
This from Jamy-Lee on her experience and character:
Jamy-Lee: “I am beyond ecstatic to be working with such a beautiful group of people in a wonderfully charged environment.
Everyone, from the catering to the directors and staff, is so wonderful. The cast and crew have brought out the best in me with their energy, and I am beyond grateful.
"I had no idea where things would go with a character like Joanne. She's an intriguing character navigating through life with a feisty persona.
She has a lot of personality, however it appears that over the years, the light inside of her has been dimmed.”
Flash facts on Jamy-Lee:

This is Jamy-Lee's first featured role on TV.
She's had one other role so far. In 2021 she had a guest role on Season 4 of Imbewu: The Seed where she played a prenatal intstructor.
