This is it TV lovers... that moment when your nervous system has to work too hard because you don't want to see DStv's annual price increase.
MultiChoice has announced the new prices for packages from 1 April 2025 and they're going up twice this year! - once in April, and then again in May when VAT increases by 0.5%.
These are the new prices before the VAT increase, followed by package updates:

Add Movies goes from R79 to R49, a decrease of 37.97%.
Extra Streams added
As we mentioned in the
TVSA News Shorts, DStv's backtracking on the streaming throttle. Premium, Compact Plus and Compact will each get two streams per account on any device instead of one.
Compact scores/Compact Plus loses
In addition to the prices, the satcaster has also announced various additions to some packages and a loss to one.
Here's a rundown:
Compact
These five channels are being added to Compact from 1 April:
SuperSport Action (channel 210)
Africa Magic Showcase (channel 151)
CBS Justice (channel 170)
Curiosity Channel (channel 185)
History Channel (channel 186)
In addition to the above, Compact subscribers are also getting a discount on Showmax, paying R59 instead of R99 per month.
Family
Gets the addition of these three channels:
Comedy Central (122)
HGTV (177)
Disney Channel (303)
Access
Gets these two:
Zee World (166)
Nicktoons (308)
EasyView
Gets one:
SuperSport Schools (216)
The Biggest Loser
Goes to... Compact Plus, which
loses 1Max and receives no new channels in its place despite new channels being added to every package except Premium which already has them all, minus BBC-UKTV.
Not that 1Max is a loss considering how rando it is, but now Compact Plus has no replacement for the defunct 1Magic.
It's also subject to the biggest percentage price increase across decoder packages after Access.
Price lock
As you may know, you can price lock your account at a discount for the next two years - we've just received an e-mail about it and presume they'll be going big on promoting this now.
Hopefully they don't get Somizi in as a brand ambassador for it. Probably not. He's too yesterday isn't he?
