Heads-up!
S3 premiered the Brazilian telenovela Sweet Diva (A Dona do Pedaço) on Tuesday 4 March in the 16h30 timeslot, replacing a repeat of the Turkish telenovela Innocence.
This came as a surprise after S3 previously scheduled two other Turkish series this year, which never materialised. The Usual Suspects and Meryem were going to follow each other after the end of last year's Brazilian telenovela Bom Sucesso (A Life Worth Living).
As with that series, Sweet Diva features an English dub.
It's written by Walcyr Carrasco and directed by Amora Mautner. Coincidentally, Carrasco is also the creator of
Plaas van Passie (Land of Desire) which premieres on kykNET & kie on 18 March at 20h00, dubbed into Afrikaans.
Sweet Diva follows Maria da Paz, a humble woman who witnesses the shooting of her betrothed Amadeu at the altar and flees for São Paulo, pregnant.
Needing to start from scratch as she has a child to raise, Maria da Paz starts to sell cakes on the street and through her business savvy which she fosters over the years, she creates a fortune, becoming a beloved and renowned baker in Brazil.
Despite this wealth, she possesses a certain “tackiness” to her having been raised in the countryside, something that her daughter, Jo, isn’t too welcoming of.
This leads to her feeling a great contempt and hatred for her own mother, whom she will manipulate and mistreat and make a rival out of throughout the show.
The series has 135 episodes.
Teasers coming up soon.
