New South African series The Phoenix premieres on eVOD today (16 July), headlined by:

Tango Ncetezo, of The River, Rockville, A Place Called Home and Thuli noThulani,

Class Act Season 1 Top 5 finalist Yonda Thomas and,

Dumisani Mbebe, who's currently starring in the Netflix drama series Savage Beauty.

The other star of the show: cannabis, the new in-thing business. The lead characters don't just grow their four plants per person that South Africans are legally allowed to grow now.

They're involved in a farm set-up, where sh!t goes down, man.

Isn't that how it always works?

Here's the synopsis and a teaser:

Kholeka (Tango) gets thrust into the unforgiving world of cannabis farming after her wealthy husband's shocking murder.

With suspicion clouding her every move, she must fight to clear her name while navigating a treacherous landscape rife with deceit and danger.

In this male-dominated industry, Kholeka finds an unlikely ally in Mawande.

Together, they embark on a mission to rebuild Kholeka's husband's empire and uncover the truth behind his demise.

As Kholeka proves her strength and determination, a powerful bond grows between her and Mawande. But, their friendship takes a dramatic turn when a shocking revelation throws everything into question - including her trust in Mawande.

Meanwhile, her husband's business partner threatens to take over the empire, and everything she's built.

And now, Kholeka is forced to confront her deepest desires, protect her legacy, and answer the ultimate question: who does she truly want to be?

Sounds very similar to another eOriginal drama series. Anyone remember Harvest?

Good spot there TheTVFanaticDsk - this is the basic premise of Harvest, from the TVSA Show Page:

"Harvest follows the story of three women who are forced to take over an international drug smuggling business when their husbands are murdered, running it under the guise of a global frozen foods empire.

Based on the premise of three strong women in a 'man's world', Harvest covers all the aspects of family, love and betrayal in a cutthroat illegal business sector."

Very similar indeed...
