Are You the Writer?

If so, this four week training course could assist you in writing your future...

An organisation called Creative Careers South Africa is on a search for 50 aspiring TV and film writers who'd like to participate in a four week online screenwriting skills development programme.

It's called Am I the Writer? and consists of screenwriting workshops run by industry professionals and lecturers covering various scriptwriting skills e.g. Pitching and selling a script, character creation and development, genre and tone, dialogue and subtext.

It's happening from Monday 20 November to Thursday 14 December and this is what you need to know if you'd like to apply:

Who can apply?

Writers between the ages of 18 and 35 who have a post-Matric qualification.

How to apply

You need to write a 2000-character synopsis for a short film, using one of three briefs provided by the course facilitators, which you'll find on the application form here: Am I the Writer? Application Form

Your synopsis needs to include the essence of your proposed story, including key plot points and character dynamics.

According to the facilitators, participants will be selected based on creativity, originality and how well they capture the essence of the briefs.

Must knows

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.

You need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer and stable internet connection for the duration of the programme.

You'll need to be available for two to three hours per day for the four weeks.

The course is also offering a R5,000 stipend per attendee, providing you complete the course in full.

Application deadline: Wednesday 15 November 2023 at 15h00
(Soon! We would have let you know about it earlier but we've only just been told about it.)

You'll find more info on the website here: Am I the Writer? (You'll find more details on the application requirements here too.)
