Binnelanders celebrates 15th birthday with four new arrivals and a comeback

The Binnelanders studios by night, built by producers Elsje and Friedrich Stark, opened in 2010.

On Tuesday, 13 October 2020 Binnelanders celebrated 15 years on air, making it the longest running medical drama series in the country.

Since it first premiered in 2005 it's changed name and format more than the doctors change their scrubs, switching from Binnelanders to Binneland Sub Judice (during its legal days) to Binneland and then back to Binnelanders again.

We presume that this is IT and it will never change again.

To mark the show's anniversary, the writers have created four newcomers who arrive as we speak and next month.

As you'll see from the teasers, Rita debuted this week and the others arrive in November.

Meet the new characters and see who's making a comeback...

Rita Nortier
Played by: Ilana Cilliers

Nurse Rita. She's almost too friendly and overly enthusiastic.

Why so over-friendly? Will she smother a patient with a pillow?

Eloise Clasen
Played by: Julia Wessels

A new physiotherapist who has to massage more than her patients. She has to massage "the situation" too.

Dr Hugo Vos (Cobus Rossouw Jr) is her first love so working with him at Binneland Clinic tests their professionalism to the max.

Koos Jonker
Played by Ryno Hattingh

Father to Dr Tertius Jonker (Reynardt Hugo). He arrives unexpectedly - with dramatic consequences obviously.

There are no other kinds of consequences when a parent gatecrashes your life.

Wendy Toerien
Played by: Henrietta Gryffenberg

Mysterious. She's weirdly interested in a patient who is brought into the ER but no one understands why.

And...

Elise Kruger
Played by: Lindie Stander

Zany nurse Elise makes a comeback after leaving Pretoria back in 2013 to take care of her father.

She returns on Wednesday, 11 November and KykNET's doing a close-up on her on BRAVO! on Sunday, 15 November, revealing what she's been up to between then and now.
