As you probs know, SABC1 and the National Film and Video Foundation have teamed up for a series of Wednesday night short films that have been airing at 19h30 over the past couple of months.

Four new movies air this Rocktober and continue the theme of Women.

According to the official description of the movie themes, the films aim to subvert stereotypes and break genres by telling stories in non-conventional ways.

Now that they've become a fixture on the channel, we thought it would be cool to compile the month's line-up into a handy guide for you to refer to.

The programme:

Thavhazimbi
Date:
Wednesday, 7 October at 19h30

Lebo, a young mother who is grieving the birth of her stillborn baby, finds it hard to confront her mother-in-law, Puleng, an evil woman who confesses that she took the spirit of Lebo’s unborn baby to gain material wealth.

Starring: Onthatile Matshidiso as Lebo, Sibongile Nojila as Puleng and George Gent as Mmuso.

The Cuddler
Date:
Wednesday, 14 October at 19h30

To make her emotionally distant father happy, Boipelo lies to cover up her career as a cuddle partner to those who crave the touch of a caring woman.

Starring: Zoleka Monare, Sello Ramahloane and Sekoati Tsubane.

The Rose
Date:
Wednesday, 21 October at 19h30

A rising businesswoman’s son is accused of rape and she is forced to choose between protecting her family at all costs or doing what is morally right in her eyes.

Starring: Keaby Mashugane, Mkhonzeni Mazibuko, David Mohleke Motahane, Lawrence Mthembu and Sona Lubelwana.

Twelve
Date:
Wednesday, 28 October at 19h30

In the small-town summer of 2002, self-reliant Nina, aged twelve, befriends the new girl in the neighbourhood (Andrea) and takes her under her wing.

Nina's unease with the scarcity of communication at home snowballs after a series of unnerving encounters. Soon the flood of adolescent angst propels her to confront her parents to cope with her growing sense of abandonment.
