Special notes

What percentage of South Africans actually watched the Miss South Africa pageant?

The answer: a maximum of 1.98%.

We thought it would be fun to do the calculations so we have.

As you'll see in the above documents, 756,855 viewers watched the pageant on Mzansi Magic.

It also aired on M-Net but the viewership wasn't high enough to make DStv's Top 30 list. Unfortunately these limited TAMS documents don't show what the viewership was so we've based the final number on the very maximum it could have been.

The very maximum viewership it could have attracted on M-Net was 372,107 viewers - one viewer below Soka Lama, at the bottom of the DStv list.

The final calculation looks like this:

Mzansi Magic viewers 756, 855
Maximum viewers who who could have watched it on M-Net 372,107
Total maximum viewership 1,128,962

South Africa currently has a population of approximately 57-million people and 1,128,962 viewers is 1.98% percent of the population.
