e.tv divorces Broken Vows in early primetime schedule shuffle

e.tv has broken its vows with local telenovela Broken Vows with only three months left of their marriage.

The series, which ends in April this year, has been ejected from the channel's primetime schedule, and its primetime broadcast will only air on eExtra on OpenView HD and DStv from this Monday (15 January).

We assume the move means that the show has been flailing in the ratings because it hasn't made the channel's Top 20 list of shows since it's debut last year and the BRC's ratings are so untransparent we can only assume the ratings are a flop.

We also assume that advertisers haven't supported the series. This isn't necessarily the show's fault because it seems e.tv's advertising sales department may be to blame too.

Last year a mole-in-the-know told TVSA that e.tv's advertising sales department hasn't been coming to the party when it comes to selling advertising on South African shows so this could be a reason for the breaking of the vows too.

The result: Broken Vows will now air on eExtra at 18h00 on weekdays. An omnibus will air on e.tv on Saturdays at 11h20 and daily episodes will be available on eOnDemand on the e.tv website.

This is what e.tv's new primetime schedule looks like:

Daily early primetime

16h30: Judge Judy
17h00: Steve Harvey Show
18h00: Days of Our Lives
19h00: Rhythm City
19h30: Scandal!

Mondays at 20h30 and 21h30

I dont like the way etv is treating their local shows .they are focusing too much on international shows

They made a big hoopla of "going local" just 3 years ago and now 3 later, they are right back to where they started. I think Ashes To Ashes FLOPPING is the reason etv's local revolution never got off the ground.

Don't know why local productions flop cz scandal&rhythm have proven dt people actually watch the channel so i think if international content is more valuable business side so they must stick on that route. bt if bv record 1 million viewers aren't those gud numbers for the channel cz it cant be success over night in terms of ratings and they quick to sack every show

Oh thanks @ max85, its the first I hear of this being done in SA, I know the holiday hiatus is done a lot in American series.  There I was thinking my Explora has failed me and did not record the last episodes :-)

Couldn't they hang on until April when the show ends anyway. Now they are just burying the show.

Most shows from 20:30 went on hiatus and were replaced by nightly movies. All shows are expected back from 15 January 2017. Looking forward to Power, don't mind re-watching it.

Power must just tone down on the s*x scenes, jeesh! The storyline is interesting enough, they don’t need none of that.....
