The 66th Miss Universe pageant – which takes place at The Axis in Las Vegas – will be screened live on Vuzu (see below for repeat broadcasts).

South Africa is represented this year by 22-year-old Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, a B.Comm graduate from the Western Cape, who took the Miss South Africa 2017 crown in March this year.

Demi-Leigh is odds-on favourite for the win according to bookies, with her nearest competitors Miss Thailand, Miss Philippines, Miss Colombia, Miss Venezuela and Miss USA.

Aaaaand the winner is.... Demi-Leigh!

She's the first Miss South Africa to win since Margaret Gardiner won in 1978.

The two runners-up are Miss Colombia Laura González (first princess) and Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett (second princess).

This is what Demi-Leigh had to say in her acceptance speech:

“I resonate with everything that the Miss Universe organisation stands for, especially empowering women across the globe. I have always tried to be the example of the change I want to see in the world, and this platform will give me the opportunity to make a difference. I hope I have made South Africans proud and that I will continue to do so during my reign.”
