Rhythm City to recreate Dumi Masilela's death

e.tv and Rhythm City have announced that the soapie will be recreating Dumi Masilela's tragic death through his character Sifiso Ngema.

Dumi's death is going to be mirrored on the show when Sifiso gets hijacked and killed.

Word from e.tv is that Dumi's family have been consulting with the soapie and the decision has been reached between them. Their aim: to highlight the scourge of violence in South Africa.

The hijacking will happen at the beginning of October but we won't see it - it's going to be spoken about by Shakes (Zola Hashatsi) and the world of reality and fiction become one after this.

The show's going to film a memorial service for Sifiso as a tribute to Dumi, which will be attended by Dumi's mother Sabatha and his brother Thabani.

This from RC producer Yula Quinn:

"The show’s producers decided to use Sifiso’s exit story as a way to pay tribute to Dumi’s work as an actor and to highlight the tragedy of unnecessary violence that plagues our cities."

Dumi's last on-screen appearance will be on Wednesday, 11 October and the memorial will air on the 18th.

Can't forget when this young, handsome guy walked into the cast of Rhythm City, brought in from the streets by Miles Vilakazi. You have played your part, you have left your mark. As RC remembers you today through a tribute episode, a viewer and RC fan all the way from Nigeria says, I will surely miss you, S'fiso (Dumi). You have done well!
