How DStv chooses what to put on Catch Up

If you're anything like us, you've wondered about Catch Up... why are some shows on it and others aren't? How does DStv choose which shows to put on it?

We asked MultiChoice who told us:

The content made available on DStv Catch Up is linked to the DStv package of the customer e.g. DStv Compact customers will see channels and content available on DStv Compact.

There are a number of factors that influence whether a specific series, show or movie will be on DStv Catch Up.

The rights to air a show on DStv are different from the rights to add it onto Catch Up - we have to negotiate rights for Catch Up with the content providers separately from our rights to broadcast the shows. Viewer requests also get taken into account but sadly it’s not just up to us to decide what is added, also about what we can negotiate the rights to.

We also have a limitation in terms of space available on the actual decoder to add Catch Up titles. That is why we have more content available on Catch Up Plus when you connect your Explora decoder to the internet, or go online or via your smartphone to DStv Now.

The idea is to offer the most popular and newest shows on Catch Up - to give our customers a chance to see shows they might have otherwise missed. And of course, offer some continuity for shows that are returning for another season. It is a fine balancing act to add content for everyone in the family.

Thanks for this, I've always wondered myself.

Now I hear DSTV is offering its premium subscribers free access to Showmax, can you please find out how will this actually work?  That is how to actually access the free Showmax.............
