TIOT: Season 8 and new host confirmed

Tropika Island of Treasure must have made lotsa treasure for Tropika because they've renewed the show for an eighth season, to be filmed in the Maldives.

They give away R1-million each season and the on-location production can't be cheap so we assume it's made the moolah to justify a new season.

Minnie Dlamini, who hosted last season, is Out, and Expresso's Katlego Maboe is In.

This time round the selection process of contestants involves open auditions for the first time.

In previous seasons contestants were chosen from a competition entry process, whereby they had to buy Tropika to enter. This process has changed over time.

In Season 7 people bought Tropika to enter a competition, which included prizes and a draw if they wanted to audition for the show. Those who won the draw - which was an automated, random process - were auditioned by the show.

This season the production is auditioning people at shopping centres. People have to buy Tropika to get access to the casting so you have to pay to audition, which is very different from every other authentic TV audition.

Please note: TVSA always recommends that you don't pay for castings.

These are the audition details from Tropika's press release:

Join the auditions*

From 1 September, buy any Tropika product and join the Tropika team at the #TIOT8 auditions:

  • Saturday 30 September 2017 - Cavendish Square, Cape Town
  • Saturday 7 October 2017 - Gateway, Durban
  • Saturday 14 October - The Zone, Johannesburg
Consumers who join at the auditions should keep an eye out for their favourite celebs, who’ll be making appearances when least expected. Competition for those seven coveted spots to join the celebs competing for that smoooth R1 million will be fierce, so consumers must bring their A-game to the auditions.

Solve riddles and get a golden ticket to the auditions*

From Monday 4 September 2017, Tropika will be sharing a riddle a day on their social media with clues as to which celebs will feature in #TIOT8.

Each day a new clue will be revealed, and one person who correctly guesses the celeb each day will win a golden ticket that’ll allow them access to the audition phase and the opportunity to jump the queue.

Seven celebs; seven clues over seven days; seven golden tickets.

Those who don’t make it to the Maldives can win* daily prizes when they buy a Tropika product, including:

  • A trip for x2 to the Maldives (to experience the very island that #TIOT8 will take place on, staying at http://www.adaaran.com/)
  • A share of R500 000 airtime
  • 15 Instax cameras and film
  • X5 R10 000 Travelstart vouchers (valid until Feb 2018)

*Updated: here's a link to the Terms and Conditions of the Guess-the-celebrity-competition.
