Isidingo star Jack Devnarain in the running for new SABC board

Isidingo's Rajesh Kumar may soon be involved in representing the best interests of the South African public, the TV industry and the SABC as a permanent member of the desperately needed, highly anticipated new SABC board.

Jack Devnarain, who's played Rajesh on Isidingo for 15 years, has been named as one of 36 candidates in the running to be on the new board.

Jack was selected by Parliament's Committee on Communications who debated and revealed the 36 shortlisted people today (22 August) after whittling them down from a total of 363 applications for the job.

This isn't the first time that Jack has been nominated - the DA nominated him earlier this year as a candidate for the current interim board.

Between then and now he's kept himself busy beyond the Isidingo set by flying the flag for actors' rights as the National Chairman for South Africa's Guild of Actors. We assume he also spent huge amounts of time compiling his CV to apply for the board because you can't throw that sort of thing together in an hour.

The CVs of the 36 hopefuls are going to be published on parliament's website so everyone will be able to see exactly what Jack applied with.

The 36 are going to be interviewed over three days from 29 August to 1 September and the new board will start their duties towards the end of September.

The whole of the interim board has been included in the line-up and are listed here in the first five positions... the candidates are:

1. Interim board chairperson Khanyisile Kweyama
2. Interim board deputy Mathatha Tsedu
3. Krish Naidoo
