DStv Extra changes to Compact Plus - the price, the channels, open time

A heads-up that DStv's Extra bouquet changes name to DStv Compact Plus from today (22 August).

The package will continue to be the bridge package between Compact and Premium and the monthly price remains the same as for Extra: R489 per month. This is without the PVR access fee of R85, which takes the monthly fee to R574 per month for PVR owners.

This is R124 more than Compact (with the PVR access fee) and R300 less than Premium with the PVR fee.

The biggest difference between Compact Plus and Compact lies in the fact that Compact Plus has 20 additional channels to Compact so the name is more appropriate than the vague Extra which never managed to convey how it fits into the overall bouquet landscape.

The additional channels on Compact Plus are:

Comedy Central (Channel 122)
ITV Choice (123)
E! Entertainment (124)
Lifetime (131)
kykNET (144)
AfricaMagic Urban (153)
Crime & Investigation (170)
Animal Planet (183)
HISTORY (186)
SuperSport 7 (207)*
SuperSport 8 (208)**
Nickelodeon (305)
CBeebies (306)
VH1 Classic (323)
SkyNews (402)
RaiItalia (430)
BVN (431)
TV5Monde (437)
DW (446)
RTP International (525)

*Home of La Liga, FIFA, UEFA, CAF.
** Selected rugby, hockey, extreme sports, Nascar, tennis 500s, squash, LPGA tour, IAAF Diamond League, International boxing

Of course DStv wants Compacters to upgrade so they're opening up Compact Plus to Compact subscribers for September. All of the channels on Compact Plus will be available on the Compact bouquet from 1 to 30 September.

I would upgrade to Compact + if they had vuzu amp. I really would. Anyhoo at least I'll have E! and La Liga for September. And Jimmy Fallon on CC.

Dstv really wants us to upgrade .Vuzu is so boring .there is nothing exciting. If they ddnt fear backlash they would literally take away mzansi magic from us lol

I just wish they would put an option to acccess Mnet on the compact package, when we do dstv installations a lot of clients compain that too many fo the channels on the premium package are not worth the price tag
