Time change alert! Zaziwa moves to Sundays to make way for new show

Last year Zaziwa dodged a bullet when it was jolted from 19h30 to 21h00 and back to 19h30 on Thursdays and now it's in the firing line again.

This time with a much bigger jolt.

Once AFCON ends, it's going to move to Sunday nights at 20h30 aka SABC1's twilight zone, when the channel turns into the yawnfest of Ngempela.

Zaziwa, which regularly attracts between 3 to over 4-million viewers in its Thursday night slot, will now have to fight to rebuild its ratings on a Sunday night in a battle against Mzansi Magic's Sunday night hits and e.tv's popular movies which start at 20h00.

SABC1's Sunday night ratings never feature in the channel's Top 20 list of shows so it's going to be a battle of the most epic and impossible proportions for Zaziwa to retain it's current place on the list.

The reason for the move is that a new social media show will be starting in it's timeslot called #ThrowbackThursday i.e. Twitter on TV.

It's hosted by comedian Skhumba Hlophe and covers the main stories that have happened on social media in the week for those who haven't had enough of them during the day and want to see them repeated on TV instead of watching something they haven't seen before, like the latest episode of Zaziwa.

The move to Sunday nights could go one of two ways: Zaziwa could plunge in the ratings and lose it's current voomah completely or it could inject a burst of cool into SABC1's non-eventful, pre-movie Sunday night line-up that makes the "Sunday night feeling" worse.

Ngempela isn't going anywhere unfortunately - it's moving to 20h00 - so Zaziwa offers much better entertainment before the movie and could be a welcome alternative for those who don't have DStv and those who've already seen e.tv's movies mu-mu-multiple times before.

How will the move impact on you?

Uhm, they have TrendingSA on 3 mos for social media? They're just recycling shows and shooting themselves in the foot

@scorpio my thoughts exactly! They already have TrendingSA. Argh SABC is so useless. I'll be watching Saints and Sinners. So bye with this ridiculous channel.

They have killed Zaziwa!
Mr Duma Ndlovu posted about what seems to be a new drama on SABC 1 starting on the 12th February (a Sunday) at 19h30.  It is called Ingozi and has Jet Novuka and Xolile Tshabalala as part of the cast and its a Word of Mouth production according to the post.

RIP Zaziwa!
Whoever made that decision CLEARLY knows nothing about Sunday Night TV! And why replace such a popular show with a TrendingSA clone? This #ThrowbackThursday show won't even appeal to a lot of SABC 1 viewers!
