Game of Thrones and The People v. OJ Simpson lead 2016 Emmy nominees

The nominees for the 2016 Emmy Awards have just been announced and the phenomenal series The People v. OJ Simpson has received the credit it so highly deserves with a total of 22 nods, one less than Game of Thrones.

The series, which aired on FOX earlier this year, gives a mindblowing true account of OJ Simpson's trial and has to go down as one of the most brilliant series of all time.

TVSA has been pestering FOX with queries about when it will air again - we've been pestering them from before FOX was added to Compact and we've continued pestering them afterwards but there's no sign of it. We'll keep going and won't stop until it airs again.

The hugely problematic downside of its nomination is that its up against the equally superb Roots - in the very same Limited Series category, which means that the two have to go up against each other and it's impossible to choose which is best.

Another massive issue with this is that Roots has only received seven nominations when it deserves a whammy of them too. It received nominations in arbitary categories like Sound and Hair and Make-up and Outstanding Casting but not a single nod for any of the actors!

So many of the actors deserve to be nominated and yet they're nowhere to be seen. Those who deserved nominations include Malachi Kirby as Kunte Kinta, Jonathan Rhys Myers as Tom Lea, Forest Whitaker as The Fiddler, Tony Curran as Connelly and Anika Noni Rose as Kizzy. Where are they?!

Also notable among the nominees: someone who didn't a deserve a nomination who didn't get it. Lady Gaga hasn't received any notice as Best Actress for Hotel. She's been deservedly snubbed. Others have been nominated but not her.

Here's an overview of the headline categories with a link to the full list at the end:
