Carol's new man on Muvhango: Rantebeng Makapan

Watch out Carol! You're about give your heart to someone with Loser tendencies.

Rantebeng Makapan makes his debut on Muvhango on Friday night (1st May) in the role of Morapedi Mojalefa. Son to Lerumo and Moriti. Very different from his sister Mangwashe. And love-struck by Carol. The pair want to lock lips the moment they meet.

Seems Carol's got her work cut out for her because Morapedi's troubled by life and the hand he thinks he's been dealt. He's often negative and blames Lerumo for destroying his dreams because Lerumo couldn't afford to send him to university when the Mojalefa's business took a knock.

Morapedi tried studying through UNISA instead and gave up. Then he took short journalism courses and gave up. Then he tried freelancing at newspapers and gave up on that too. And now he's convinced he's a brilliant actor and goes to castings in the hope.

This from the official character brief that Rantebeng's been working from:

Morapedi's lazy and blames most of his failures on misfortune. He feels as though his family owe him something. He detests the fact that his parents “love” Phathudi Jnr and he strongly feels that they also love Mangwashi more than they love him. He calls himself the Black sheep of the family.

When Thuli shows up, he is not fond of her - he calls it the “invasion” of the Zulu’s. He always tells his father how glad he is that Lerumo is married to a Pedi woman, he (Morapedi) would not be here if his father was still married to the Zulu woman. He sees Thuli as an extension of that woman.

He is always on the brink of being convinced by his friends to be on the wrong side of the law. It has not yet happened but his parents don't put it past him to be arrested one day for something hectic. When there's a knock at the Mojalefa’s door in the evening, and Morapedi is not in, his mother always has a feeling that it is someone who has come to deliver some bad news about her son.

Clearly Carol isn't aware of all this - or she thinks she can change him (most likely!).
