And the winner is…Team Robbie!

As reported by fellow TVSA Blogger Makisto here, the gloves indeed came off at the Clash of the Choirs finale on Sunday night at Houghton’s Victory Theatre. All choirs were strong but not as strong the KZN choir who continued the reign from Khaya Mthethwa’s win last season. Everybody knows now to not mess with the Zulu kingdom in the voting game, even the first lady Gloria Bongekile Ngema was in the midst to support her home province.

The show which opened with a combined three-choir show-stopper lead by choirmasters Moneoa, Robbie Malinga and Shuga Smax delivered entertainment from start to finish with inclusion of Donald, Mandoza, MXO, Zakes Bantwini and Ziyon. The choirs then battled it out for the last time with two songs each.

Team Robbie led the voting polls with a huge margin of over 130 000 votes and snatched the whopping R750 000 prize from Team Moneoa and Team Shuga Smax, R250 000 of which goes to their charity, Ikhwezi Welfare Centre.

After Bonang screamed the winner in a manner which seemed to have confused Moneoa’s choristers, we found ourselves in a cloud of confusion as two teams celebrated in the confetti rain but it was Team Robbie that had won and this proved against the wild rumours that flew thick in the build-up to the finale about Moneoa’s conspired win. I felt embarrassed for those kids.

Boxes of gratitude were awarded to the two runner-ups by Metropolitan and Moneoa’s Team, which came third, seemed to have received the tiniest of the boxes.

With the success of Season 2, it is almost confirmed that Endemol, DSTV in partnership with Metropolitan will proudly bring to us another musical season of Clash of the Choirs with Bonang still in the front line. We look forward to the next season, hopefully with all nine provinces inclusive. Thanks to DSTV and Mzansi Magic for always having us in mind.

Great article skeem. Yazi I was also confused at home when Bonang announced the winner. This goes to show the alleged Moneoa win wasn't true to begin with, but hey, at least she tried man.

Well they deserved it.

But man our standards of good performance are very low hle mzanzi. In the US version of this show, none of the choiurs in the top 10 would have gone through to the sing off stage.

I hope our version of x factor will give us singers with the x factor, im looking forward to that.

I am also holding thumbs that X Factor brings real talent thats going to sustain. not just someone who'll disappear with credits of the last episodes...

The choirs do sound perfect in the theatre though, very world-class, or it could just be the theatrics in there...but i think the best man won!
