MTV Cribs Are Top Shayela

I know that DSTV subscribers have already acquainted themselves with the whole MTV Cribs concept, but why would SABC overplay the series.

If you are lost, then let me fill you in. It so happened that this past Saturday, I was channel surfing and somehow I landed on SABC 3, in the late afternoon, presumably after 5pm. It was quite interesting to see that SABC 3 was screening MTV Cribs

Later on, at about 6pm, I was channel surfing again and I landed on SABC 1. Guess what was on? MTV Cribs

And like a three-fold Devaju, MTV Cribs had just played on MTV or was it MTVBase, I can’t recall, my head is still spinning from this entire replay.

I found this to be rather awkward…

What is the logic behind buying a show from another channel and flighting it on two similar channels, at almost the same time?

It was my first time seeing MTV Cribs on SABC, so I’m not certain if it always plays on both SABC channels, but from a press release I saw, MTV Cribs was intended for SABC 3

In the spirit of recognising local content, it would have been more fitting to have one of the SABC channels flight MTV Cribs (SABC 3 – as originally planned) and have “Mzansi Cribs” on the other. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro the idea of MTV Cribs being flighted on SABC, it’s a marvellous show, we just need to have our own local version.

It can be done. Vuzu seems to be pulling it off with Top Shayela

Speaking of Top Shayela, last week’s episode was looking into Bonang’s fabulous life on the Fab Lane or is it the Bee Lane. It showcased her house, car, shoe and clothing collections; and also gave us a glimpse of her work.

As South Africans we generally complain about everything under the sun. This would be a good time to give credit where it’s due. I’m loving the fresh production behind Top Shayela. Yes, the concept might not be original, but they sampled it very well.

It also goes without saying that young ladies like Bonang are an inspiration and proof that it’s possible to live on the fabulous side of life. Big Ups to her for all the hard work.

Whilst we are still on fabulousity. I hope all the Top Shayela’s are saving up or investing their a portion of their earnings. We are tired of success stories gone wrong.

We want these success stories to be permanent, minus future front page “So and so is broke” stories. Thank You.

Pruluv keep dreaming, you know damn well the sabc is broke and has no money for local productions.beside the fact that they are irrelevant and have no clue wat the masses want to see!

You are so on point. I don't really have time to watch too much TV but I get your points and I agree on principle. It doesn't make sense to air the verty same show on SABC 1 and 3, crazy stuff lol

The last paragraph... I am so with you on that one, Pru. We really hope that the Top Shayelas are shayeling with their own money - not some bank loans that will make them Bottom Shayelas in a few years. Reminds me of how I reacted when I saw Nonhle's mom saying on some cheap magazine that her daughter has given her an early Mother's Day gift in the form of a Merc A Class. We totally pray that it's the US dollars that have paid for the benz... and uNocurtain will not still be paying its instalments when she comes down from Hollywood. Serious

@ pruluv

couldn't agree with you more on that one, u took words out of my mouth. one african american millionaire said something very profound that if you drive a land rover and have a landlord then there's something wrong with u. Hope B is investing her moola, this industry is very fickle, jimmy choos, loubotins and guccis are not investments

i watched the Bonang's version and i must say i luvd it, Bonang is a natural & i think ppl will b more interested in watching her reality show. apparently nonclaire did not take it well she tweeted some-not-so pleasant words, justcurious covered it.

and speaking of which,B is having her online reality show or something

Okay, i dont like this cribs thing...and i watched top shayela with Bonang and i dont like it either. But I do appreciate that what this shows are about showing the bling and the property that this people have...which should imply that they have worked hard and earned eneough money to bling themselves up. If this celebrates their hard earned achivements then i applaud them. But just dont enjoy this concept. I do have even more fickle tv guitly pleasures though...

After watching Top Shayela featuring Bonang, i knew many females were jealous of her shoes and bags! DAMN....that chick is living large and she didnt need a man to bring all that to her, what shocked me is her weave that costs R7000, i was like WTF? i could have done so much with that cash!

Tjo Cariri, you know I wrote tha story my friend. Kwaaaa @ you saying my magazine is cheap lol. But anyway, let's not give away too much info on the mag identity

We totally pray that it's the US dollars that have paid for the benz... and uNocurtain will not still be paying its instalments when she comes down from Hollywood.

I agree that B's reality on SABC 1 during late prime will attract more viewers than Intsika does. Nonhle must just get over herself shem, how does she know if Bonang had the concept because her show aired. NoCurtains must just take a chill pill lol

@ThatDude We had superb productions like Intersexions, so it's possible. I don't know how far they are with the whole payment of Production houses saga.

@vesa

this reminds me of what DJ Sbu said in his interview with Move Magazine that most celebrities are buying things on credit just like ordinary folks

I think I saw My Sweet 16 and Pimp My Ride on SABC also. etv took up Snoop Dogg's fatherhood. The free tv space needs an intervention. Something needs to be done in order to get/give life into the local industry. The SABC is holding on for dear life to dying soapies (or maybe they lost souls & are just zombies now) - probably because they pay too little & this results in the current state of poor quality. Something seriously needs to happen.

@boodah, nothing will be done until viewers choose to vote with their eye balls.
How can you complain of the quality of productions yet millions sit in at 8pm everyday to watch that shower called generubbish?

Not knocking anyone's hustle but Top Shayela and cribs are not my idea of entertainment.
