After Soweto sang, it was time for Durban to SHINE on last night's episode. The Oasis church was the place to be as hundreds of hopefuls queued for their chance.
Just like the past three regions, Oasis Church was no exception when it came to funny auditions. Some tried to even change judges’ minds about their singing capabilities or in this case incapability’s.
However, some came to impress and left the judges speechless while others had great vocal abilities but lacked confidence and presentation. One contestant, Josslyn, brought her vocal ability to play and blew the judges away. Nonetheless, was her vocal prowess voice enough to melt judges’ hearts to send her through to the next round?
The other hopeful who impressed me was a 20 year old who sang Zodwa’s ‘ngiyalilonda’ for which I felt she could have put Zodwa to shame with her rendition even though I couldn’t see if the judges let her through or not.
Remember, viewers will have to wait until the Cape Town auditions to see the callbacks auditions. I.e. after Cape Town auditions, the judges go back to Pretoria for call back auditions. (That way I should be able to report back with all the info regarding contestants).
This year SHINE is looking for a solo gospel artist who will be able to change the gospel genre and bring in new feel to the industry. While best vocals is recommendatory for this year’s Shine competition, presentation, eloquence, Poise and flair forms the total package of who the judges are looking for.
With three regions down and six contestants in the national top 9, the road to SHINE ends in the beautiful mother city next week as hopefuls will be singing their way for a ticket to the city of gold
