SHINE: The Boys Sent Packing

Last night the Top 9 sang their hearts out for a chance to secure a spot in the Top 6 as three of them were to be eliminated. With only two males representing all the boys in the country, the pressure was on for them to bring the house down. This week, the contestants had to sing their favourite track to convince the judges why they are on the Top 9 and should stay for the top 6.
 (NDUDUZO KHESWA- BOOTED OUT)
First to perform was Nduduzo Kheswa, a wild card contestant from KZN. He performed –Alikho elinye gama’ for which the judges felt he could have done more with it. Liesl said he could have done better as she felt the back-up singers swallowed her. Tshepo shared the same sentiments and felt he didn’t exactly bring his A- game on but loved his presence and dress sense whereas Steven thought he was just average and nothing wow about the performance given the stage of the competition.

Second performance of the night was given by Darleen Jonkers from Eldorado Park. She sang ‘he is been just that good to me’. The crowed loved it, the judges too. Liesl said Darleen knows exactly why she is there and that she is in it to win it. Tshepo said her performance was on point- The vocals, dress sense and the way she delivered the song. Steven echoed both Liesl and Tshepo.

(Andries Mokhomola- BOOTED OUT)

Andries makhomola was the third person to person to perform. He performed –he watches over me- Liesl said she didn’t really like it as she expected more from him and felt, like Nduduzo his vocals weren’t strong enough and as such was swallowed by the back- up singers. Tshepo said he was disappointed by his performance whereas Steven hoped he would stay to secure a spot on the Top 6.

(elwira standili- BOOTED OUT )

Elwira Standili sang ‘his eyes on the sparrow’ Tshepo thought the voice was amazing but felt she could have used the stage more. Liesl loved the performance too and said that’s what the competition is all about. Steven said she had the most amazing voice and that she mustn’t stop singing

The youngest of them all, Ndumiso Mahlangu brought the house down with her rendition of ‘Alikho elinye igama’. The crowd went crazy as they cheered after her performance. Tshepo said the performance brought him close to tears and couldn’t believe someone so young could have so much talent. Steven said he had goose bumps from the performance and thought it was perfect. Liesl said she has God given talent and no one can take that away from her but said she must be careful with her raves and she mustn’t overdo them

Precious was gave a stellar performance with her rendition of her own composition –u no bubele nam- The judges loved it. Tshepo said he loved the jazzy feeling on the song but felt she could have used more stage. Liesl loved the fact that it had various elements to it and that she can actually release an RNB gospel album. Steven said it was chilled yet it had powerful message in it.

Nomandla Mfecane also gave a thrilling performance for which the judges loved. Tshepo said she had an amazing deep voice and like precious, can branch into different genres within gospel music but still felt she should have used stage some more. Liesl loved it and said she has a very unique voice, for which Steven shared same sentiments.

Nokuthula sang alabaster house, Tshepo said it was a good performance but felt it wasn’t a very good song choice but hoped she stayed in the competition. Liesl said she doesn’t know how she felt about the performance as she felt it lacked something. Steven thought it was an overall good performance

Nomvula closed the performance. The judges loved her performance. Tshepo said she was the real deal. Liesl said she loved the performance and the overall presentation and Steven said she sees her going far in the competition.

After the performances, it was time for elimination. Unfortunately it was the end of the road for the boys (Andries Mokumola and Nduduzo Khewsa) as they scored the lowest points from the judges’ score card. Elwira standili also accompanied the boys as they were sent packing.
 (judges deciding)

This week the top 6 are singing the song chosen for them by the judges. Here are the song choices:

Jennifer Hudson- You Pulled Me Through

Monica/commodores- Jesus is Love

Hillsong- Be still

Aretha Franklin- Bridge Over Troubled waters

Donny Mcclurkin – The Prayer
