In a show that has successfully managed to deliver surprises and drop the heaviest bombs at every elimination, Monde Msutwana became the last piece of the remaining trio to link the weakest from last week’s triple blockbuster showdown.
Monde got the painful brick knockout, leaving the sultry Port Elizabeth siren Melissa and the Durban powerhouse Khaya Mthethwa in the competition to brawl. As is, the runner-up is already sitting on R100 000 from KFC, so no sharing negotiations on the big prize this year I guess.
At the moment it’s a bit vague as to who might scoop the title. Khaya’s ever-shining light might just get deprived and snatched off his hands by the under-dog Melissa Allison who’s left everyone dumbfounded after her unexpected rise to the finale. Nobody even knew she was alive until the Top 5. It could go either way. BTW, the Top 10 has returned to the Idols house and are preparing a number to perform in the finale.
In the press room I managed to get some juice during the Q&A with the media. Read below for the subset of the whole chat.
Q: What was the most exciting thing you’ve done?
Monde: Oh, on my journey, I loved doing the Ford and KFC ads, where I was in different characters and I’m thinking maybe in a year’s time I might venture into acting.
Q: What do you think some of us or the audience have learned from you?
Monde: That’s a difficult one to answer. I think regardless of age, anyone can do that which they put their mind on. I remember getting a lot of critics from people who though I couldn’t do it, but every week I said to myself that, yes this song speak to a certain target market but I’m gonna do it so much so that it filters over to other markets.
Q: What do you think got you this far in the competition?
Monde: When I was competing I’d think of what song and what to do next, and constantly on stage I’d be thinking and strategizing while I’m performing. The minute I said this is who I am and this is my interpretation of the song I forgot that I was competing and I’m now singing for my fans.
Q: If you could tell your fans who to vote for, who would it be?
Monde: They must vote for the one they love (laughs). I mean at this stage it could go either way. Melissa has been an underdog like me and people were saying Ag, Melissa this, Melissa that, but look where she is now. So if you want to vote for her, do so and same for Khaya.
Q: Who would you vote for?
Monde: That is confidential. (laughs)
